Academic Requirements

General

The institute seeks to enroll students with good academic credentials and a strong character who will positively contribute to the diverse and rich cultural environment of campus life. Each applicant’s record should reflect promise of growth, seriousness of purpose and a sense of responsibility.


Diploma Programmes

Minimum qualifications for entry to REPAHA as approved by its Advisory Board are:

Passes in four CXC General Proficiency Examination with a  minimum of Grade ‘2’, and/or any qualification considered by the institution to be equivalent.  These subjects must include Math, English and at least one Science subject.

OR

Passes in four subjects in the Cambridge or London General certificate of Examination with a minimum of Grade ‘C’, or any qualification considered by the institution to be equivalent. 

Candidates who do not meet the above entry requirements are required to write a Standard Entrance Examination administered by the institution.


Other Courses

Specific entry requirements will be defined in the institution’s prospectus or in the respective course brochures.


Age Requirements

Age Limit

Prospective students should be 18 years and over before they enter REPAHA, however, under special circumstances a younger student could be accepted. 

Admission of Mature Students

Notwithstanding the qualification requirements stipulated on the page on entry requirements, a prospective student who has reached his twenty-fifth birthday may be admitted as a mature student.  Such a student may be required to:

  1. Take an appropriate pre-programme course(s)

  2. Write an entrance or placement test.

  3. Attend an interview to determine admission eligibility.


Fees

Each student who registers will be required to pay the current fees.  The cost of the programme is US$5,000 per annum payable per term, in advance as follows:

Note: Fees are not refundable.  

 


Travel and Visa Requirements

Students outside of Guyana are normally provided with return air tickets by their sponsors. The school provides transportation to and from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri, on arrival and departure.

Note: To remain in Guyana for the 2 year period, you will have to be issued with a 2 year visa or an extension of stay by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

One of the requirements is a comprehensive Medical examination which includes chest x-ray, VDRL, stool tests and to have the following vaccinations before they arrive:- Yellow Fever, Small Pox and Tetanus.

Admission Procedures

 

Application Procedures

  1. An application form which could be downloaded and printed should be completed and submitted no later than April 30th of the current year.

  2. The Admission Committee will process the application and the applicant advised of a place being is given by 30th June.

  3. Successful applicants are required to deposit US$50 or 1% of the fee within two (2) months of notification of a place as confirmation of acceptance of the place offered.  This sum will be credited towards tuition payable for that year.

Note:

  • Where the number of applicants exceed the number of places available the institution reserves the right to select those who, in the opinion of the administration, are most likely to benefit from the course of instructions.  

  • Late application forms will be accepted but will be dealt with on a first come first serve basis and  will be considered only where programmes and training courses are under-subscribed.


Registration Procedures

  1. A student who is selected for admission will receive a letter of acceptance, which will contain instructions for registration and orientation.

  2. The student will be required to present a valid medical certificate upon registration for classes. A student will not be admitted to the institute without a medical certificate.

  3. In addition, the applicant is required to present valid evidence of vaccinations against most of the major contagious diseases, which should be obtained no more than one year prior to the date of initial registration.

  4. Registration must be conducted in person and at the beginning of each term.  Specific dates are circulated to students.

*** Late Registration Penalties

A student who fails to register on the scheduled days without satisfactory explanation will be subject to penalties of EC$10 for the first day and EC$2.00 for each additional day.

Should a student not register in person within 5 days of the official registration day, without a satisfactory explanation, such a student may be refused registration for that term.


Orientation

New students are required to register for and attend an orientation session at the time of enrolling at the institute. Orientation provides opportunities for testing, if required, academic advising and general information pertinent to newly entering students.
